The first I knew about this was when I logged on about 6pm. Where is the official side's reasoning then? I can't find anything at all......and as you say I can't pm anybody to find out what's happened! It seems ridiculous to me. Every other forum has a pm facility.

How am I going to keep in contact with all my lady friends?? Huh

It's causing me a great deal of anxiety thinking some of you might leave the forum when you have all provided the help, advice and support I desperately needed when I was suffering from extremely deep depression about this dreadful disease. I will be completely gutted if NRAS don't take this seriously.

I can`t really add to everything that`s already been said. I much preferred the old forum, for various reasons, but thought the PM facility was great. I used it recently, when owing to the problems with my dad, the fact I was knackered etc., I could very quickly send a pm to let folks know how things were without the need to find the right section in which to put a post and then write one out.

Please reconsider.

Kathleen

Still feeling really angry......................and if the pulled " lighthearted posts" ARE to do with our nights out, does NRAS not realise that such daft posts actually kept me alive all through last year, when I was, literally, at deaths door?

Without the entertainment factor that was SO funny, I for one would have said NO MORE and opted right out of what is still a very gruelling regime to beat the big C.

I can't do it without all of you.

NRAS should wake up and reconsider; those who dislike the frivolity don't have to get involved, and those who do should feel able and free to offer anyone a giggle in their darkest days. THAT is why we have specific names for sites, to avoid offence.
Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences

I agree with you there Lylie.
I know for a fact a lot who don't post on our "lighter threads" look forward to reading them because it makes them smile when they are at a stage when there is not much in their lives to smile about.
Unfortunately there will always be the odd one who will complain and in this world of compensation issues etc where people are afraid of being sued ,they will be the one who is listened to, to the detriment of everyone else.
It's very sad.

It may not be our light hearted thread folks. Common sense says that it can't be surely? Lylie, I am with you. It is such fun to be silly and I look forward to all the unusual ideas that have been proposed over the years on this and our old 'story' on the fun page. Life is hard enough especially for some and I can't imagine that the majority of users would find anything offensive in our 'night out'. String........ and Jor..... haven't complained have they?

Lets hang fire and await some adult dialogue from Helen, NRAS. We are the members so should be entitled to a full explanation surely.

No one leave please. The expression 'cutting of our nose' comes to mind. Perhaps we have experienced forum type people around who could tell us what our rights are re losing our messages for example. It does not seem legal to remove them without notice unless there is a clause somewhere saying that they belong to NRAS. What about privacy laws? Are we to assume that all the PMs have now been deleted unread by others or that they are being scrutinised?

Darling Lylie. you won't be doing it without us. We will find a way to communicate through other channels if this is going wrong for us. We do have the technology!!!!!

Hang on in there all!!!

Yes Stewart, I can see why you're anxious, don't worry, I'll e/mail you instead! LOL

Basically it is wrong because our PM were PRIVATE. I am not impressed that they have been read, surely this is not allowed. If someone chooses to report an 'abuse' then that is a different matter.

RE the lighter threads (whatever they are)- I know we mustn't presume so it is best to wait and see which ones have been considered 'offensive' but to be perfectly honest VERY few have touched on the offensive and it is pretty clear that, as adults, we can decipher what is wrong and what is just plain frivolous.

Love,
A

Completely bemused by all this, would deffo like pms back - they are exactly that, private.

Perhaps an explanation from NRAS could be forthcoming? We are not children where we have to be policed and monitored, we are able to make our own minds up whether something is offensive or otherwise.

Absolutely. And if I report something as abusively racist, I expect a reply telling me why it has been allowed to stand. Not a tumbleweed silence.

thinking about this AGAIn in the shower. Got out and have checked the tech spec for this forum. NRAS can technically make members moderators, which is common in all other communities of this type, and stops it dying or being underused as people drift away, turned off by not knowing the rules. I think we can manage ourselves, what do others think? It will lessen or even remove issues we have out of office hours, as we're here then. And it could be start of engagement on other issues, such as the PM facility being reinstated.

I totally agree with every comment made. I didn't know you couldn't PM anymore. If the moderators have received complaints about 'light hearted' banter then they should edit the post before it's delivered.

I've also been on other forums and that's what they do. i can't see why they should take away everyone's rights to message someone privately. Not everyone wants their problems viewed by all.

Perhaps they'll have a change of heart and very soon come to their senses especially if people are threatening to cancel their subscriptions. Keep giving out the great advice and take care all.

confused dot com

i didnt realise this had happened....!Mad

& my understanding is anyone who "oversteps the mark" should be contacted individually to advise and ultimately have sanctions imposed upon them if they continue, but not the whole lot of us........

....i admit it doesnt take much to confuse me, but this just seems like such a shame....... :(

Hi all, very distraught to see pms stopped, I have a message in there from a person that is helping me out at the moment and I cannot access it! I used to use the saga forum and if any body was naughty on there they were removed either indefinitley or for a certain period of time. I have not been on the forum long but I find the loss of this facility very sad. I too have messages in there that I use for reference, what now ? have they all disappeared into the ether ? am I going to be able to access them at some point? what about the message that is waiting for me that I am very annoyingly told about when I log on. I would say to the moderator please reconsider, don't let everybody suffer for the sins of the few.

John.

So sorry Jon that you can't access your messages, you'd think they'd let you do that so that you can get the email addresses from the people/person that you've ben talking to.

In the post from Helen, it says that you can get email addresses from NRAS as long as you get the permission from the other parties involved. I didn't read it properly but you could try that. Don't know how you get the permission if you can't ask that person in the first place. seems very odd to me.

Good luck getting hold of the friend that you need.

indeed! i feel this peasant merryberry here is revolting.

we want some power over community management please.

i have experience in this, and am volunteering now. i have contacts at other forums who can advise NRAS backstage how they can make the power shift. i have a stack of resources from around the web on how to do this, how to support moderators. i am not scared of the tech and can support other moderators if they get stuck out of hours.

i also have time and health. we can all probably think of other obvious candidates whose maturity, forum seniority, time available and general good eggness make them natural candidates. anyone else want to do this?

Well come on NRAS - we are waiting for your response to all our queries as a matter of urgency.

Maybe Sue (Bugaloo) could have a look at this and tell us where we stand legally with regard to our existing private messages which have been withdrawn unilaterally without any sensible explanation?

Dear Amanda - I know exactly how you feel about the prospect of pm's being accessed by third parties. I have put some very personal stuff into some of mine and would be outraged if I found they had been read by someone else.

I can ask my brother, he's a barrister....and deals with libel and slander! (LOL)

If NRAS agree to us voting for say, three or four moderators, I think this is the best way forward.

Love,

Amanda
